Safer to virtualise via a keyfob?

Hi

I recently got a USB keyfob which read/write speeds over USB3 of about 290/285.

I have a MBA with limited SSD space and I was wondering if it is indeed better and more secure to run VM machines of the keyfob then put them on the local SSD.

Linux mint, W7 etc.
