I'm worried that putting a Macbook Air in a messenger bag (one that sits on your hip, not up on your back), could put enough force on the computer to bend the body / potentially crack the screen.*

Have you heard of this happening?

*since the computer sits in the center of the bag which is balanced on your hip, it's bending it around a point. With books or something also in the bag, it would add to the bending moment...

What? If it really worries you get a backpack. A book placed in the inside position would be very effective in countering any "bending" by your hip.

Bent MBA's

Personally I dont think you have anything to worry about, I have sat on my 2011 MBA and it had a bend in it like a boomer rang. Bent it back it into shape tighten all screws and looks good as new, still works with no problems. :D
