Is there any way to know the safety of using apps that are not downloaded through the App Store? I have installed Bitdefender and not sure if that helps. Specifically, I am trying to download a game that will be run through the wine app. If there is no antivirus to scan these programs, is there any protocol that should be taken to protect the computer? Thanks.

For 30 years, I've downloaded apps from wherever, and used them.
My Macs are still running fine.

I don't light any candles...

You can't know. Even an old standard like Handbrake had their servers hacked and people downloaded a version with a trojan malware for several days before it was discovered.

Will it be better to have the program installed on a non-admin user?
