Well my iPhone has finally been charged to my card, but curiously enough it was charged at $325 rather than the $360 I was quoted when I purchased it. I was under the impression that in california we would be charged for sales tax at the unsubsidized price of the phone. Anyone else get a reduction in sales tax? Anyone know why?

Given me another reason to campout near the Apple Store. I would like to save the $40. For anyone else who got charged $325, do tell.

Yeah I am curious if anyone else was charged less than originally quoted on their orders as well? And I wonder if AT&T does too. (They usually charge sales tax on unsubsidized price on their other phones).

Charged (and went through) $68.17. I'd love to know the reason for a lower tax. 32gb. No accessories. Apple.com. So Cal.

Edit: Called Apple. Sales Tax in my area: 9.75. On the unsubsidized price of $699. Ouch.

My charge cleared my bank account today as well and it was $325.00 :D I'm in Fresno, CA.

I called apple cause my initial order was for $362, my thank you confirmation was for $362 but on my account status through apple.com and also my email confirmation it said $325.... I was told whatever your Apple.com status says is what we will charge, he wasn't sure why it was lower but said it would only be $325.

And SURE ENOUGH look at my account this morning and the charge has Fully Cleared (not pending) for only $325 :)

Not sure why some of us are getting lucky and some aren't but I think for sure it was a great move to go with Apple.com since I got charged less tax and my phone will be delivering a day early. :p

Maybe it has to do with local sales tax laws. Or maybe only AT&T charges tax on the unsubsidized price. My emailed receipt said it would only be $25 tax, but it also said the tax was subject to change. and when I ordered it I know it was $360. (the pre-auth had been $360 as well). Im thrilled if this is correct, just gave me an extra $35 for the month. (Im a starving college student... Yay food!).

My email confirmation as well says it was going to be $325 .... and my Pre-authorization from last week on the 15th was the full $362.

If it shows $325 in your Account Status page on Apple.com then I can almost 99% guarantee you you will only get charged the $325 (that's what the apple rep told me when I inquired about this lower price).... and we all know that you starving college students need more money for poker and beer pong! LOL :p

Hope it all works out for you bro!

This whole thing is prety insane, I thought that in all of Cal you get taxed on the retail price no ifs, ands or buts.

No, there must be some clause because it is "subsidized" by ATT. I had forgotten about this tax... (ouch)

To be fair the illegals are paying their share of sales taxes as well. But california is bankrupt, it needs the money.
