Hi everyone,

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with macOS 10.12.6. I was trying to get SMB working so I could connect with Kodi/SPMC but was having trouble so I installed SMBUp as a temporary workaround. The downside of the app is that for whatever reason I can't get it to show guest/ro shares. Everything requires a credential. Not sure if it's something I'm missing or what. I'm used to Linux where I can modify the smb.conf file to my liking but that does not exist I OS X.

So my question is, would it better to use the native SMB protocol in OS X (if so, how can I edit the confit manually) or maybe install OS X server? Or, install samba from Homebrew? Any suggestions/experience with any/all of those options would be greatly appreciated.
