Same model drive swap?

This question may be from out in left field but I'll give it a go: We've got two same-model 13-inch MacBook Pros in the house and we are wondering if we could simply remove each drive and swap them into the other machine. Would it simply start as normal as if it were the same machines but different bodies, or are the drives formatted for each specific machine, not just the model? I can't seem to find an example of this while searching the archives. Thanks in advance.

It will work, as long as the OS from one Mac has the version the other Mac came with or later.
