Sorry to trouble you guys, but I've just fitted the aformentioned card and drive to my 3.46 12 core 5,1, along with 96Gb of ram. I have a couple of observations/disappointments, and am wondering if there's any scope to improve it? Basically, the machine is on the new 144 boot rom, and I've just installed Mojave. All is well, but the machine seems to take a long time looking for a bootable drive before the boot screen begins. The old Crucial MX300 2TB & OWC Accelsior seems to initialise the process a whole lot faster. Also the new NVMe drive doesn't seem to load apps or open files any faster than the Crucial MX300. Is there anything I can do to address this? Also, I was wondering if part of the issue is because because the new combo is still showing on the desktop as a removable drive?
Thanks in anticipation of any words of wisdom you can give...
Mike.

Run a benchmark on the drive (try Blackmagic Disk Speed Test from the App Store).

Do you have a GPU that actually shows bootscreens? If not, then it's totally normal to see a long black screen before a brief apple logo and then the login screen.

NVMe is a much faster drive than SATA but does not make booting faster on the cMP--it may even boot slightly slower than a SATA drive. There is also not a drastic speed difference for most general tasks--certainly not the very significant difference seen between HDD and any type of SSD.

It's got nothing to do with appearing as an external drive. That is only cosmetic.
