This morning, the 256GB 830 SSD was on sale for I think $289, lowest price I've seen yet. Since then it rose back up, but keep an eye on it to see if it drops again, because the price has been fluctuating daily, and this was the lowest price I've seen. Amazon Link I was at school and couldn't post it, but thought you all would like to know about this deal. Right now it's at $319, so it's a little too high for me. I'll update this thread if I find any other hot deals or if the price drops again. Anyway, cheers, and happy Easter and Passover everyone!

Edit: Back to 298

Do you really need more than 256 on the go?

Yes.

Slow externals to me are for backup. And if you do use one for dedicated storage... that also needs to be backed up.

Before the 512gb SSD I had a 1TB internal HDD. That was pretty sweet but of course kind of slow.

depends entirely on your usage patterns. I have a 160 gb ssd in mine + a 500 gb external and it's working ok for me lol

256 GB + external hd isn't so bad lol. Do you really need more than 256 on the go?

I mean I would probably need more than 256GB because of my iTunes and DJing software and whatnot, but if I had to make due with that and an external, I probably could, I just wouldn't really want to try. :)

Yeah, I do. Sorry, I can't image having only 256 GB on my notebook. You might not need that much, but I actually use my MBP for work (I teach, I consult) and space is something that I'm always wishing I had more of.

512GB would be a starting place for me, but I wish I had 1 TB of SSD space.

I also use my ODD from time to time so I do not want to ditch it for another HDD.

I'm always amazed at the people who seem to think that if they need or don't need something, then everybody else is just like them. :roll eyes:

You don't need to store your static data on the SSD - iTunes music, etc - they won't benefit much at all and at this high dollar to storage ratio, it's not reasonable at all to use 512GB or 1TB to store your music collections, music, etc.

BUT if you are working on final cut, etc, then using the 512GB or 1TB SSD would be more sound due to the speed requirements. I would have to agree at this moment in time due to the costs of these SSD's, having 256GB is a luxury and would suffice. Put all your other multimedia files on a regular HDD.
