I have just purchased a Samsung CLX-3175N, and have established connection to it over a network from a MacBook Pro (Mac OS X). The scanner works fine, but the printer does not. When I try to print the job comes up momentarily on the printer queue, then the printer beeps, the job disappears from the queue, but nothing prints. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?
thanks

I have the same printer and have been using it for about 14 months. I also have it connected over my network. I have never encountered what you are describing. The only thing I can suggest is try installing the latest drivers.

I have gone through the installation procedure that came on the CD with the printer, and have also done the installation with download from the Samsung site -- but both give the same result.
Despite installing the software and drivers, the Mac says it is using the "Generic PostScript Printer" driver for the machine.
Also, I have a "Smart Panel" icon on my top menu bar but it does nothing if I click on it.

That is your problem. Go to System Preference -> Print & Fax and make sure that the CLX-3175 is listed on the left. If not, add it.

Also, when you select print from within the applications, make sure that it is using the CLX-3175.

it is listed there as an IP address.

I have plugged the printed in with a USB cable and it works fine with that. It just won't work through the network.

OK, I was trying to find help on this problem and came across this thread. There's no solution posted here but I managed to fix it, so I figured I'd register an account and let you know how I did it.

I have a Samsung CLX-3175W but it's the same as the "N" printer with WiFi support added.

Go in your Finder to:

Macintosh HD:Library:printers:Samsung

and throw the "CLX-3170" folder in the trash. (and I emptied it too just to make sure it was gone.

Then, I did a fresh install of the drivers from the CD that came with the printer. (I had previously downloaded the drivers and tried to install them but that's when I was getting that "beep" thing, the same as you, when I tried to print a test page.)

I added the printer under the "IPP" protocol (not Line Printer Daemon which is the default when you add an IP printer)... the name didn't automatically fill in, and neither did the driver. I also had to override the default "Generic PostScript Driver" to select the "CLX-3170 Series" driver.

Now it's working fine. The stupid thing is, it was working fine and just randomly stopped working. I had switched out my wireless access point/DSL modem but the IP on my printer didn't change, so I don't know why it stopped working.

I hope this helps. :\

Great solution

This worked for me! Thanks for taking the effort to write it down here!:D:D
