Yeah yeah, Samsung design usually blows, been there, heard that.

I know some people are "enthused" about the Alpha, and Note 4, but for me those are even more horrendous with their asymmetric metallic bezels.

Enter the Samsung Galaxy A5

Notice the clean symetrical lines. The lack of unnecessary embellishments or textures. The side points for SIM and SD cards. The pleasing unibody style appearance. The bottom side headphone jack.

While the Alpha and Note 4 look tarted up and garish, this actually suggests real thought went into the design.

All they need to do IMO is get rid of the physical home button and go all on screen buttons.

Big Android fan, but this design does not impress me one bit. Still the same old Galaxy S4/S5, Note 3/ Note 4 look, just in metal, so what.

But to me, Touchwiz is the issue, that needs a major revision.

While I do appreciate that the irritating flared corners of the Note 4 have been dropped, I have to say that this design looks a bit lacklustre to me. To me this screams "generic smartphone".

I would climax if Samsung:

- dropped the front facing logo
- hired a design chief with a vision and actually decent taste. Yes, the mirror universe Jony Ive...or something.

The front Samsung logo really needs to be eliminated. I would say we are at the point where Samsung design queues are iconic enough, much like people that see an iPhone. No way I am ever going to look at an S3, S4 or S5 and confuse it with a Nokia.

It's just tacky and draws away from the look of the device when anything is glaringly emblazoned on the front.

I will admit these designs are much better than anything else they have released, but I still find the Moto X the best looking.

LOL Oh my! Here we go....... about as much as Apple copied the rest of the phone market for larger screens!

Uh the design of that samsung is close to an iPhone. Not just the screen size. The whole design

You know you're right. This samsung is way uglier than the iPhone. My apologies.
Got it....your the Samsung hater type......Apple fan...Samsung hater...got it. Now I know......you're the front runner type like Lebron..........LeBron's a chump......

That is true but totally different. A larger screen is a feature, whereas a chamfered edge is a design element and in this case it looks like a direct influence. I don't see anything wrong with it because Samsung have copied aesthetics from Apple for years, but its interesting to see it still happens.

The entire mobile phone market has dictated the jump to larger screen devices and Apple were forced against their will to join in on that, I think even they would admit that. I don't think the global market has swayed towards chamfered edged phone's though lol. Personally in hindsight I think Apple created a weak point by introducing the chamfer as it invited chips. They were heavily criticised for it too in the period after the iPhone 5 was released. I suppose now they have moved away from it, it does no harm for another manufacturer to try it and use its notoriety.

Uh ok way to reference a nba player in here lol. Not a samsung hater just being honest. That looks very similar to iPhone design, from the chamfered edge to the headphone jack being on the bottom. Wonder if the battery is nonreplaceable too.

Geez. A note 4, galaxy s5, galaxy alpha, now a galaxy a5. And that's why samsung has had a terrible quarter.

Btw back to basketball, MJ all day. I actually had a thread talking about how lebron ain't up there yet. Lebrons lost more finals than won, and changed teams twice. Oh and he's a samsung spokesman too lol.

I doubt any phone is 'designed' to bend, not even the iPhone 6 Plus. The fact a small number of them have bent is simply something that has been discovered post release. You can bend any phone with force but as I said, I highly doubt this is the desired outcome of the designer or manufacturer.

It doesn't look anything better than the Huawei Ascend P6/P7 and Gionee Elife S5.1, but Samsung is getting better.

Eventually....all successful product start to blend together. Thus happens with just about all product categories. With the squarish edges it might resemble the IP5 more but not the IP6. There are tons of phones that do not have removable batteries. Apple didn't invent that you know.

Samsung had a terrible quarter compared to a record quarter a year ago..... They still made what about 30 billion in profit as a whole?

I am with you on MJ.....he made everyone around him better. Wasn't afraid to take the last second shots with the game on the line....moved the rock around too. Lebron is a ball hog.......the games stops when he touches the ball. MJ played for one team and won 6 titles....... He persevered through the lean years and stuck with it. Lebron bolted when things got tough. San Antonio showed how flawed his game is.....
Now he is surrounded with talent in the weak East.....we'll see how he does.....

Hope not, not a fan of bendy phones.

bending phones is not a feature i want.....
