Anybody use it?

is it right that it just backs all your contracts, music e.t.c and when getting a new phone you can just transfer from kies to your new phone?

does it back-up photos?

As when I switch from my note 3 to note 4 I want to transfer 3 main things

contacts
photos
Music

Yeah you can do that with Kies, but surely contacts are backed up to the cloud anyway?

And syncing music & photos can be simple assuming you are using a microsd in your Note 3 to store them. If so just take it out and put microsd into Note 4 :)

Yeah it's all backed up, I used backup pro last time switching from S4 to note 3 but when I last tried it with my tablets it didn't work as well.

Kies is actually useful for these things... I've used it to back up my phone and you can also use it to access the phone or SD card's file system to grab specific content you want like photos.

funny i have never used kies at all since the galaxy s, as a xda dev, it was the first load of apps to go from custom roms, and airdroid to be honest is so much better.

I guess the only reason to use it is if you want firmware updates and am not rooted at all. Again i use odin over kies for that

I've only used Kies for emergency firmware recovery. It's basically a failsafe when you bricked your phone.

I use Kies on both Windows and OS X for my phone. Basically, it is terrible, just like much of Samsung's software.

Dropbox/carousel? Google Photos? Google Play Music? Google account?

Are you kidding me, how can someone use Android but not those services? How can someone spend so much money and use Samsung Software and back things up to a computer?

Now I only use kies for the firmware. It's useless for everything else.
