My excellent Samsung laser printer/scanner was hobbled by Catalina with the elimination of 32 bit drivers by Apple, but I could still use basic print functions available in any document program, and Image Capture still worked for the scanner. I left one iMac (2012) on Catalina, but on my other iMac (2017) I made the mistake of upgrading from Catalina to Monterey and then Ventura, and Image Capture no longer recognizes the printer. None of my programs on that machine can see it either.
To make matters worse, one of the Catalina point releases screwed with the printer system and now I'm allowed to print exactly one document correctly. Further documents are turned into a a single line of wingdings across the top of every sheet of paper in the tray. If I don't power cycle the printer in between files this printer will convert good printer paper into scratch paper in very little time.
HP bought Samsung's printer operation not too long after I purchased my printer, promising to continue support for these devices for the foreseeable future. I guess that went no farther than their CEOs nose, because I haven't seen any 64 bit driver support for Samsung yet.
In the System 8 and early OS X days there was a printer super driver available that could run just about any inkjet with no trouble. I can't recall what it was called, but I'm hoping there's something like that available for laser printer users who need a 64 bit driver. How else can I get this printer up and running in both scan and print mode, no errors? I really don't want to replace it, because it was inexpensive and has extremely high print quality.
