Just got the Samsung Neo G9 57” and having an annoying issue. Wondering if any of you are as well.

I have 2x 16 inch MBPs connected to it, an M1 (work) and an M4 (personal). Both have same issue where the monitor refuses to turn on if the MBP lid is closed. I've tried this under PBP, PNP, and just one connected at a time and it's the same results. Basically the only way is to keep the lids open, but that's getting to be annoying since the MacBook Pros are taking up unnecessary space on my desk. Additionally, dragging windows across the desktop is causing them to move from the monitor to the respective MBP display.

I've already enabled "Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off" but it did nothing.

I've tried both with the supplied Samsung cables and with the Cable Matters cables/adapters, again same result.

Anyone experience something similar?

How are you connecting to the display? It doesn’t look like that monitor has USB-C, so are you using USB-C to DP/HDMI or HDMI direct out of the MacBook Pro? I’ve had issues with cheap adapters or cables that adapt inline.

First things first though, do you have the MacBook Pro plugged into power when trying to start clamshell mode? And if you do is it the Apple MagSafe charger? If not try it with that and see if it makes a difference. My M1 Max does not like doing clamshell with my monitor at work at the Anker 120w USB-C charger I have. 50% of the time it just refuses. The other 50% I get random disconnects from the display. MagSafe with the of Apple adapter works 100% of the time.

The other option to consider trying might be a Thunderbolt dock. I have one at home that has DP and HDMI built in and 100w power and it’s rock solid stable connecting my MacBook to two 4k displays too. If you don’t care about having TB 4/5, I highly recommend finding a Western Digital D50 Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The version without an NVME ssd inside can be had for ~$100 and has met all of my needs for a home office dock.
