Is it just me or do all the maxed out models, or more up-scale configurations have the Samsung screens?

List your model type and what screen you have here.

In another thread on this site people were listing what screens they had as well, but there seemed to be no specific pattern in which screen you get.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1389918/

The only pattern that I see is that the larger SSDs seem to be Samsung instead of Toshiba.

I have a 13" w/ 8 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD coming in a few days. I will update as soon as I find out.

I have the 13" ultimate - i7/8/512 and have both a Samsung display and SSD.:)

You should make this a poll

LG screen ultimate
LG screen other
Samsung screen ultimate
Samsung screen other

Maybe make it 8 choices, naming 11" vs 13". Random posts will make it hard to get good numbers.

11"/8/128 LG screen  toshiba drive

good idea.

13/8/128 samsung screen/toshiba
11 ultimate lg screen/samsung

How do you tell the type of screen / SSD?

post this into terminal

ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

if you get something that starts with LP you have an LG
if you get something that starts with LT you have a samsung
if you get something else you have the rare AUO

for the SSD just go to about this mac---more info---system report----serial ATA----the samsung SSD ends with SM### and the toshiba ends with TS###
