Samsung today updated its SmartThings app for the iPhone, adding several new features for those who own Samsung products or devices connected to the SmartThings ecosystem. Samsung says that the changes are helpful for households with both Galaxy and Apple devices.

Device groups created in the SmartThings app are available, and those groups can be viewed and controlled with the accompanying SmartThings Apple Watch app. Apple Watch users can view their full SmartThings device list, send commands, and trigger routines from the wrist.

SmartThings is also gaining support for Siri Shortcut controls of SmartThings Routines. With this capability, SmartThings automations can be launched with Siri voice commands. The automations work similarly to HomeKit automations, so users can do things like create a "Good Morning" routine that turns on the lights, opens the blinds, and starts the coffee machine, or a "Leaving Home" routine that locks the doors, turns off the lights, and activates a home alarm.

The app already supported Live Activities, but it is expanding to support up to five recently used devices at a glance, including air conditioners, robot vacuums, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and more.

The SmartThings app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

I hope LG does this soon with its ThinQ app. I have found HomeKit to be unreliable over the years, so would welcome developer support for Siri Shortcuts.

Why not just add HomeKit integration?
I think most heavy Smartthings users have z-wave home automation devices (or zigbee), which apple doesn't support natively, you need a bridge and it's another moving part in an already volatile ecology.

Here is my hope that this means AI Siri will be able to control those devices since I assume AI Siri will have automations integrated.

Have a couple of Samsung devices. Will definitely download and give it a try on my watch. SmartThings on Android works quite well and have used it in the past. Not sure how well it works on iPhone.

In my opinion, the SmartThings app is the best application for managing a smart home. It might not have as many features as Home Assistant, but unlike Home Assistant, it runs reliably. I have it integrated with Philips HUE, and together with routines, it efficiently manages various activities such as arriving home, leaving, or reacting to temperature changes. I use it on my S25 Ultra and don’t need any dedicated home hub like a HomePod mini or similar devices.

Imagine Tim Cook triggering the voice command every morning:

I have two Samsung TV's and soundbars. Smarthings is the most useless app on my iOS devices.
We have a Samsung Ductless Minisplit HVAC in the bedroom, it saves literally thousands of dollars because we can cool the one room to a comfortable sleeping temperature, while leaving the rest of the house at 80° during the hot Southwest USA summers. It also saves a lot of wear and tear on the main HVAC in the house. But SmartThings is so fugking smart that I still have to menu-dive 5 levels to turn off the damn LCD display so we can sleep each night...1st World, but still aggravating.

edit: I should mention that my high-tech solution to this issue was to cover the display with LED Light-blocking tape...

Sounds like you've come up with a way to minimize energy use that doesn't force you to move to a better climate! Bravo! I looked them up, and they're a bit "spendy" for my taste, but you've planted a seed in my one brain cell, and who knows what it will grow into. But whatever it is, it will be Matter enabled so I don't need to use that app!
