Samsung Solstice?

I have had unfortunate luck with winning a bid on eBay, for an iPhone 3GS (and 3G). I have a fairly low budget, and have accidentally let two astonishing deals slip away.

But, since the iPhone 4 is releasing very soon, should I go ahead and buy a new Samsung Solstice, or some AT&T smartphone, as a temporary phone until the iPhone 4 releases?

Suggestions?

Anything is fine as a temporary phone for a month or so. My little brother has the Solstice, and I guess it serves fine as a temporary phone. Although typing on the phone is terrible.
