I was wondering when the next Samsung external SSD will hit the market. Following the existing naming scheme the next release should be called SSD T7.

Samsung has released an external SSD every year since 2015, so we could see the T7 this year. Given that the T5 was released in August last year, we might see an update in August 2018.

SSD T1 January 2015
SSD T3 January 2016
SSD T5 August 2017

What are your thoughts and predictions on release date, capacity and speed?

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing a couple of days ago and even googled Samsung T7 to see if anything came up -- nothing did, though. I have noticed lately in my local Microcenter that the prices on the T5 have dropped a bit, which is good news, even if I don't need another one right now..... I'm wondering if the T7 will perhaps come in an additional larger capacity, or if they will still stick with the four capacities they sell now, the largest being 2 TB? It would be nice if they'd offer a 4 TB, or even a 3 TB, however I'm sure it would be very expensive!

August or September would be a good time for a release, since Autumn is when many people buy new computers or perhaps embark upon new projects where they need extra storage aside from their internal drive. Since last year's release was in August, it's certainly possible that we'll see the T7 this August, but then again much depends upon what changes they might be implementing and so on. The fact that there are no rumors yet makes me wonder. In the meantime I've been more than happy with my T5s and they do just what I want speedily and accurately.
