My MacBook Pro deteced it as a display "SyncMaster" right away, but the display is simply black with a flashing green light by the power indicator. When I unplug the video input from the back of the monitor, it says "no connection, check signal cable", so i know the monitor isn't simply dead.

I'm using the DVI-VGA adapter with a belkin vga cable to connect it. I've also tried with a completely different adapter and a completely differen't cable. same effect.

any ideas? thanks!

is there any way to have my mac put out a lower resolution so it will work?

the only options it gives me for the syncmaster are 1280 x1024 and 1280 x 960, neither of which work.

when i adjust my native display's resolution, it has no affect on the 2nd display.

maybe it's not the resolution that's the problem?
