Samsung's New Smart Monitor M80D Gets First Discount at $150 Off, Plus More Savings

Samsung this week opened up a new sale on monitors and other devices, including one of the first discounts on the 32-inch Smart Monitor M80D, which just launched last month. You can get this brand new monitor for $549.99, down from $699.99.

The Smart Monitor M80D was announced at CES in January and launched in early June. It has much of the same hardware as last year's model and features 400 nits of brightness, a 60Hz refresh rate (non variable), 99% sRGB, and adaptive picture technology.



The display also retains key features like USB-C charging connectivity, AirPlay 2 support, an integrated webcam, and several smart TV features that enable it to be used when not connected to a PC.

In terms of new features, the M80D includes a Multi Control feature that allows images and text to be moved between the display and a Galaxy Book, Tablet, or Phone. You can also pair Galaxy Buds to the monitor for a spatial audio experience with head tracking, as well as guided workouts when paired with a Galaxy Watch.

You can also get the 27-inch ViewFinity S9 5K Smart Monitor for $999.99, down from $1,599.99. At $600 off this is a solid second-best price on the 2023 display, which has a matte display, modular 4K SlimFit camera, and support for Thunderbolt 4.

Especially considering that obviously we are connecting computers to them, so what exactly will it do that my computer can't?

Agree - I can only think that they must be chasing the kids bedroom or college-dorm scenarios where a TV/Monitor combo might be able to live a dual life. I certainly don't need these features in my home office.

Presumably, many consumers must want this because it does cost money to add the features in, even it enables some sort of revenue stream or kick-back after the monitor is sold.

Like you I want my monitor to be dumb. That said, I do miss the old Apple iMac feature "Front Row".
 
My 8 month old Samsung S9 has a nice picture...when it works. Buggy firmware - it seldom lights up from a cold start attached to my iMac as a second screen. Hate the "smart" monitor crap - invasive, unnecessary. Oh, and the first time it died I was without a screen for 5 weeks while it was serviced (not exchanged) even though it was barely 6 weeks old. And now it is out of service again, same issue as last time - bright lines on the screen. Samsung's "support" is absolute crap. Their repair service is glacial slow. Their reliability is very questionable in my experience. Maybe look elsewhere for something that works...at any price.

Should be - but still not worth the $$ in my experience. Certainly not worth the $$$$ and $$$$$ they normally charge for their defective, buggy, zero-support crap.

And I thought about getting one of these.

They are pricy, but not as pricey as Apple's monitors.
