For those who are considering to purchase a SanDisk USB Drive, particularly Cruzer Contour 32GB model, you may want to hold your purchase.

I have been using the drive series from the very beginning, starting from 8 GB, then 16GB and last week, I bought 32GB. The speed has been amazing, I can transfer files very fast using this USB drive, however, the latest 32GB is a turtle.

Here's some rough benchmark using Finder to copy a 4GB iso file to a freshly formatted drive:

8GB -> Write averaged at 17MB/s
16GB -> Write averaged at 23MB/s
32GB -> Write averaged at 3.5MB/s (There is a dot between 3 and 5, meaning 1/7 of the 16GB performance).

I swapped with another unit, still the same issue. I hope SanDisk Distributor can escalate this and accordingly replaced with me a working drive.

3.5 MB/sec is a joke for a flagship performance USB drive. The box wrote 25 MB/s Read, 18MB/s write. It has exceeded that in 16GB but failed in 32GB.

Wow that is bad! I was considering buying one of these, too. SO the 16GB one that you tested, was that a Cruzer Contour also (as opposed to a regular cruzer)?

Yes, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB of same model - Cruzer contour.

Sandisk Contour extreme 16GB

Hi guys,

I have the following issue. I format the flash disk in MS-DOS (with Disk Utility) but in Windows...it asks me to format the drive (of which it sees only 200 MB). In Ubuntu I can see it alright, but it says the file system is vfat (in Windows it shows no file system).

Even when I formatted with Tuxera NTFS, the disk remained unreadable by Windows..

Anyone faced this problem with 16GB Sandisk Cruzer Contour Extreme? Any solution?
