Ok so yesterday I got a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro. I was working great, untill i noticed something. It was showing I had 3.6 GB, when nothing was in it. I took it to shool, and had to use it on one of their Macs. It is an older version. I brough it home, loaded up my stuff, and tried to save soemthing, but i couldn't. I look to see why. I had 800 or so MB. I toom out what i had, the number stayed the same. I tried to put it back in, I wouldn't fit. I was looking around a bit, and some people said there may be a hidden folder? I pluged it into my dads work laptop, and nothing showed.

Is there something i can do? If it is broken, my dad will be sooo pissed you have no idea.

What I'm saying is, It's at 1/2 a gig. I have nothing on it. I need to do something

oh its missing 3.6gb? uhm take it back if its new and be like yea its not 4gb look in disk utility and see what it says. and why would ur dad kill u

I just got it. Do you have any idea why i could be doing this?

if you deleted something off of it on the other mac and didn't empty the trash, it is still technically on there. you can format the flash drive with disk utility or put it back into the computer at school and empty the trash lol.

I suggest the former.

:)

I just want to Disk Utility, and emplied it. I had everrything backed up anyways. Thanks for your help. BTW what does formating do, and will it affet it's performance on this computer? on others?

Not a f'in clue i had one and it worked fine until like i said i lost it anywhos where did u get it from? if it wasnt long ago you should return it. i think the best thing is to return if u can cause im not sure if u could fix this problem unless if u re format , like i said check disk utility, and if it looks normal then like take it back i dont recommend reformat if ur returning it

Two possibilities

I've had similar problems with other flash drives. Often the culprit is either hidden files (use a Console window to look for hidden files, they begin with a period), or deleted files which are now in the Trash (which take up space on the drive, despite not showing up in Finder).

I've found this problem to be even more common on flash drives that are used across computers with different OS's.

Hope this helps!

Had the same problem with my SanDisk Cruzer 4GB, so I just took it back to Wal-Mart and they exchanged it for me since it was a couple of days old, I had my receipt with me. Here's there warranty website and phone numbers: To obtain warranty service contact SanDisk at 1-866-SanDisk (1-866-726-3475) or send an email to support@sandisk.com during the Warranty Period.

don't those sticks come with the U3 software? if so a reformat may help. that is if don't use the u3 features.

I had the same exact problem and when I emptied the trash the size of my scan disk cruzer mini went back to it's advertised size.

We had the exact same problem in the mac lab/graphic design dept in class here, particularly when the drive was being used between both macs and pc's.
