I have the Latest Imac 27 (I7 2600) and it will not read a Windows XP system disk. I have Parallels 6 with Windows 7, but I have some early legacy applications (Electronics Workbench 9) which need Widows XP to run. Apple has changed the firmware so a Windows XP system disk is ejected before I can create a vm in Parallels. Thus the latest, top end Imac will not allow Windows XP vm to run. I for one do not like this.

neat idea

I have a Macbook so I will try that and let you know. thanks Erikka

update operator error

I was able to clone the Windows XP disk on an old HP and read this disk into my Imac. The Windows XP system disk would not read into the Imac. would read into the Macbook but would not clone and would read into and be cloned by the HP. One disk treated differently by 3 different computers. You figure.
