To anyone who can help...

OnyX says that the start up disc on my ibook (14" G4 running tiger) needs repairing. Given the ever more frequent games of beach ball that take place I tend to concur. However, my superdrive packed in a wee while ago so I can't simply boot off my installation disc. Any help in what I should do next would be greatly appreciated. Would it be possible to somehow boot from my friends iMac? Would it be possible to boot from an external USB DVD drive? Do I have to fumble about trying to install a new superdrive? I have an external hard drive but it is not firewire so I believe I can not boot from that (and anyway I suppose I would need a working superdrive to put a disk image onto it in the first place).

Thanks in advance and please bear in mind that I am Scottish and so particularly averse to spending any money.
