SATA Drive Question

I have a 320GB SATA drive in my MBP. It's height is 9.5mm. I am planning to upgrade to a 500GB drive with the same specs.

My question is...

Can I use my 320GB 9.5mm drive in a MBP 17 inch? They normally come with 12mm height drives. Also, do I need to do any modifications in order to make it fit (like spacers, etc.) or can I just "drop it in"?

AFAIK, the 17" always uses the 9.5mm drive; it's just that it can fit the 12.5mm, but IMO it's cheaper to use one drive for all the computers than use 2 different models.
