SATA-USB3 adapter not working on EL

I have just purchased a simple SATA/USB adapter, so I can read data of several hard drives I have from the past. It is the kind that attaches to a drive directly, has cables to power supply and the USB cable.

The OS X EL does not recognize the USB being plugged in at all. When I booted of my CCC clone of 10.10.5, it worked fine on the same Macbook.

Any idea ?
