Satechi today announced the launch of its new USB-C Slim Multi-Port with Ethernet Adapter, designed for Apple's Macs and other USB-C machines.

The adapter, which is designed to be slim and portable, features a Gigabit Ethernet port, an HDMI port, a 60W USB-C port for charging, two USB-A ports, and micro/SD card readers.

Satechi says the added Gigabit Ethernet port is useful when working in spotty WiFi areas, while the HDMI port lets people use any HDMI-enabled monitor while on the go. It supports video output up to 4K at 30Hz.

Like many Satechi products, the new adapter comes in Black, Silver, or Space Gray to match Apple's lineup of devices.

The USB-C Multi-Port Adapter can be purchased from the Satechi website or from Amazon for $80.

This is lovely and all...but monoprice already has something almost exactly the same (one less USB-A port, but 100watt charging support) and its $18. kinda hard to justify this device at that price!

I have the current version of it, been using it for must be close to three years now I suspect. Nice, solid design, especially the cable, no fraying or weak points after all this time.

Might just upgrade to this for the ethernet.

This adapter can’t possibly exist, and there must be a typo in that $80 price.

I’ve got it from the usual, reliable sources here on MR forums that the purchase of a USB-C MacBook Pro also requires you to buy hundreds of dollars worth of something called “dongles”. Also necessary, the purchase of a suitcase to carry those “dongles”.

It’d be nice if somebody made one of these for an in-wall install, either as one unit or as a couple of keystones. I’m hiding my Mac mini in a closet and it would be cool to be able to plug-in accessories at the desk right into a wall jack that leads to it.

I get that it’s a press photo, but what kind of psychopath would put the laptop in front of the display like that?

I do at work from time to time.

Usually I work with two external displays in lid-closed mode, with my laptop sitting on the stand of the left display.

When I need to videoconference, I pull the laptop forward and open it, having it in a position remarkably similar to that in the picture. I put the videoconference window on the laptop's internal display, leaving my other windows alone on the other displays. The left display that the laptop then partly blocks is where my "communication" apps reside, with the laptop generally blocking the bottom of my email client. So if it actually matters, I just shrink the height of my email client.

But as soon as the videoconference is over, the laptop gets closed, and back to the two external displays.

Again the cable is too short!
I dont know you but, i dont need to plug or unplug every 5 min so a cable a bit longer to hide the Multi-Port Adapter behind the mac.

Just do the build your self. Get a F-M cable and run it to your mini, through the wall. Your problem is so specific that I don't think someone's gunna do something for you for a while

I would love an USB-C to multiple USB-C port hub, but it must still be too expensive or impossible.

It has been years since USB-C debuted, I expected them to be available by now.
iirc the chip necessary to create a USB-C hub cheaply/easily has not yet been released. It seems like one was expected though, I’ll try to find some current info.

Haha. Excellent complaint about the complainers

MR why don’t you put “advertisement” on these to be transparent that you’re getting paid.

no other reason for a post on an item using the same chipsets as a ton of other China made hubs that sell for $30

As far as I can tell, there are no chipsets that can do 4K/60 at this price point. At this current time.

I will replace my Keychron hub with a 4K/60 unit when those become plentiful and available at a competitive price.

I'm sure it will happen eventually. Just not today, not tomorrow.

4K/60Hz, Gigabit Ethernet, 4+ USB 3.1 ports at $40-50 seems to be the Holy Grail for this type of consumer peripheral in early 2020.
You need a thunderbolt 3 dock to support 4k60, USB ones don’t have the bandwidth, when you include other ports as well. The price of thunderbolt 3 chipsets are still quite high, so the docks won’t come down in price until intel comes out with a cheaper chipset.
