Is anyone ever going to be in a position to have to use the satellite feature on the Ultra 3?

I hope not! But even an hour out of London there are areas where there is no mobile coverage so you never know.

Yep exactly. There are places not far from me where coverage is spotty at times too. And where my parents live there are huge cellular black spots.

I don't expect I'll ever use it but I'm glad to have it available.

I used it on my phone while I was on a run this summer, so I'm sure next summer when I am back in the same place I'd have a chance if I needed to send a message. And I think using the watch will be a lot easier, because I had to run with the phone in my hand pointed in a particular direction until the message sent - and it took a while, and a couple of tries to get it to work.

I hike because I have so many trails near me 5-10 mins away, anywhere between 2-3x per week. I do use satellite messaging on my 16. But I am moving back to the iphone 13 mini and want the Ultra 3. Really the only point I got the 16 was for satellite SOS messaging. I for sure will be using satellite messaging. I've used it to coordinate plans after my hikes for example while in the mountains. I am not messaging while hiking because really the point of hiking is to unplug but the hassle of finding a connection is a feature. It discourages back and forth messaging but its enough coverage that I can send a quick message and receive a response.

Thankfully no emergencies and hope to never have to send one. But its a game changer and helps me feel safe hiking by myself 2-3x a week.
