Save As dialog always take about 10-20 seconds to appear

For any app I do, when I call on a Save Dialog, there usually is a 10-20 second wait before the dialog appears. Why is this?

I did a quick Google Search, some have said it has to do with the fact that I'm connnected to a NAS/Network drive. Some others have said that I have external hard drives connected via USB.

I can't get rid of my NAS + USB drives because I need those connected for Time Machine backups, but the 10-20 second wait is extremely annoying.
