I have to reinstalll OSX 10.4.
Will I be able to save my music files and maybe some other stuff?

What I can I do to retrieve the files if I can't save them, before reinstalling?

You should be able to choose Archive and Install, which will save all your files (unless something horrible goes wrong during the installation process)

OK well I went to go reinstall, but....
When I have to choose a volume it doesn't show my hardrive.
The Hard Drive is brand, brand, brand new... so i dont think its the hardrive.

So is there any ideas?

If the hard drive is brand new, have you ever used it? Where is your data? If its not on the drive do an Option Start (hold option key with the reinstall disk in while it restarts) and you should be able to format the drive then you should be able to install.

Yeah its brand new but I have used it but only like for a month and a half.

So its been formatted then, sorry I couldn't help.

yeah its been formatted.

when i hold down option, I can see the hard drive is there but the cursor freezes.
And now when I turn it on. When it gets to the grey loading screen it just automatically turns off.
