sorry if this is a newbie kind of question. is there a way for the MAC OS to save the icons etc on the desktop in the same way when switching between docked and undocked? I have my icons when doing external monitors set a certain way. when I have to travel for work I used the built-in laptop screen and all the icons etc are messed up. I fix them and then when I plug back in to external they are messed up again. its just annoying since on windows for example I never had that problem

is there anyway on a MAC to do that? I am on latest MAC OS 2017 MBP

The official way to fix that problem is to keep all files and folder in your Documents folder and not on the Desktop.

There is no unofficial way to fix it that I'm aware of—and yes, it is highly annoying. The only way around it is to have your external screen set at the exact same resolution as your laptop's screen resolution (and of course always keep the icons on one screen or the other).
