So I just saved over a 24 page file on microsoft word that wiped out the whole time. I just moved so my time machine wasn't on. Is there anything I can do to save it? please help. Its due tomorrow

I don't believe Microsoft Word supports "Versions" yet. However, Lion would provide local Time Machine snapshots that may help.

If you aren't using Lion, there is nothing you can do.

You didn't up grade to Lion, did you? They have that versioning feature, where you can recover the file.

This has to be supported by the app itself, it's not automatic for all apps. Office has not been updated to use this API in Lion yet, so that's not going to work. Local snapshots like dcorban mentioned are app independent, though, so that would work.
