Saved Read-Only Folders And Files -How Can I Get Round This?

I am using OS 10.10.1 Mac HD 500GB
iMac mid 2010 with intel processor i3. 1333 Mhz DDR3
4Gb memory

Hi, Hope someone can advise. My main admin work is done using M.S. Office for mac.

I want to download folders/files from the computer but be able to update them. All information becomes read-only with saves to CD's/DVD's. I tried re-writables, it made no difference the information remained read-only.

Is there a way of not having to save to the hard disk, but still be able to work on my information when I want to?
