On my iphone, i've created albums of my photos. These photos are not yet on my mac. I'd like to use my mac as the main way to store & manage photos using macos photos. I know I can import photos from my phone to mac but can't figure out a way to save my iphone photos albums on my mac. I don't want to sync through icloud & hope I don't have to recreate those albums again on the mac. Thanks for your help

The problem is that you do not want to use iCloud synchronization. Sad, because this is the way it is supposed to be done. - When using iCloud everything would be done automatically. - So start using iCloud.

How comfortable are you in the Terminal? This *is* possible but it takes a bit of hacking. I'm the author of osxphotos which is kind of a Swiss Army knife tool for working with Photos from the command line. I helped another user do something similar (he wanted to sync Favorites from Phone to Mac). I've got a python script that uses osxphotos to do this. You've got to first copy the Photos database from the phone to the Mac then do the sync so it's not something that happens automatically. If you're interested in giving it a try, let me know and I'll share the instructions. I'm working on a way to make this more automated and to be able to sync other metadata as well.
