Saving contacts/apps from iphone for future use - best format?

Hi,

I am handing in my work iphone and simcard from my old job tomorrow, I then have about a two week gap before starting new job and getting my new work iphone.

I won't be keeping the same sim card.

I am also handing in my old work laptop tomorrow and I won't have a new personal laptop for another week!

I want to make sure my contacts and apps are saved somewhere and in the kind of format that I can simply synch with my new phone when I get it.

My iphone is a 3G, about 3 years old.

Any suggestions/help very much appreciated!

CSV or Vcard/VCF are both pretty universal formats.
