Saving Mail Folders Help

I have a folder in my .mac account and i wanted to save it to my desktop. I dragged the folder to the desktop and that folder then appeared as expected but all the emails have useless names! What good is 39428.emix!!! Is there a way of saving the emails logically with some sort of structure; i.e. who the email is from and subject heading?
