Hi, can I save the mountain lion installer to my desktop in a folder and then install mountain lion ? I don't have currently an additional empty USB I want to save it later on a USB . So will my Mac erase the folder when I install mountain lion? Thank you!

It only erases itself. Thus copy it, do the install with the copy and the original will remain. Or copy it and do the install with the original and the copy will remain.
