Saving projects in iMovie 08

Hey guys, I have a question about iMovie 08..

Is there a way to save my project so that all the clips/audio etc. are still separate?

I need to give my project to a friend so he can edit it more but when i save it all the sound and clips are turned into one movie so it is harder to edit.

Also is there a way to do the same thing then import it from imovie HD? I want to add some effects that are in iMovie HD, but as i mentioned when i export projects from iMovie 08 it becomes one clip, making it harder to edit.
