Looking to possibly upgrade to dual optical drives in my freshly acquired Sawtooth Powermac G4.

I've got an extra HD/ZIP carriage, and I can weld, so I'm not concerned about the internals. I've also got an extra optical drive face cover, but the spring on it relies on the bottom, zip half to spring correctly, so just removing/applying is not an option.

I'd like to leave the face with a stock appearance, but any search yields information Quicksilvers macs with the dual optical drives.

Anyone done this or have any advice?

The main problem you will have to deal with is the processor's heat sink. When the case is closed, it resides in that space below the optical drive and next to the zip drive.

On my single 450 heatsink, it resides underneath the zip drive. Just checked.
