"SBsettings" for non-jailbroken phone?

I've been doing this for years with the iPhone Configuration Utility. Works pretty well until you restart the iPhone and the links become invalid.

Hmm, can you elaborate how a link such as "prefs:root=Sounds" can become invalid after reboot? Thx!
 
It works fine once the homescreen shortcut is made, but then once you restart the iPhone or respring it attempting to launch it throws an "Invalid Link" error.
 
The iOS 5 tethered jailbreak isn't too bad, especially with SemiTether. SemiTether takes away the worry of running out of battery or having to reboot.
 
This works as advertised. Takes a little while to setup because you need to do each icon individually. You have the option to use custom icons if you want.

Good option while waiting for a jailbreak.

The icons/shortcuts continue to work after restarting the device if you have installed Icon Project from the App Store (as described in the original link). Apparently, there is a free alternative to Icon Project, I can't find it right now.

Yes, this certainly works after reboot. That screenshot is from my phone so this is firsthand knowledge.

This is the (not)free version that I have seen discussed. Maybe it used to be free?. Haven't used it so can't comment.

Here is an example of using custom icons with Icon Project.

Shame this topic is in the hacks section. Some of our non-jailbreaking brethren might find it useful.

Has anyone used both and is one better than the other?

Right now I think the only difference between the 2 is besides one being free and the other .99 is that the app you can customize the icon.

I wish there was a way to just make a homescreen bookmark for the prefs themselves, instead of relying on Safari or another app to open.
 
Wait so does this perform the same function as sbsettings? like if you click on the wifi shortcut button does it turn wifi on and off or does it just take you to the wifi section of settings? If its the latter then I really dont see the point and it doesnt even compare to having sbsettings. but if its the first option then its great while we wait for an untethered jailbreak.
 
Aw man, I actually have a WiFi Toggle and Bluetooth Toggle apps in the App Store approval queue. Guess this info will make my apps kind of worthless. Oh well :)
