Yest it is a scam. I am surprised you provided the link in this thread for everyone to click and get potentially scammed.

In cases like these, if you are in doubt (no matter if it is Apple, your bank or your credit card company etc.) never click the link directly but start your web browser, go to the official (Apple/bank etc.) site, login and simply check for yourself.

Also never ever provide the link to others. As you did in this thread. You don't want to expose others to a scam do you?

Edit:
The link is removed by Mac rumors, so my answer above may not make sense to new readers :)

I clicked on the link and it redirects to Apple's website.

Yes. But the OP did not know that. When in doubt never provide these links in public and potentially expose others to harm.

Also, Apple will never ask you to verify your ID in this way in the first place, so something is definitely 'phishy' here. How the link seems legit is anybody's guess.

Well there is that of course. And I don't merrily go clicking on unknown links, except in my sandbox linux virtual machine. There is this however.

"whois xxx" does return back to apple.com.

And of course the saying: "if it's unknown it's probably unwanted" does apply.

There will never ever ever be a legitimate message, for any company, telling you to verify account details by clicking on a link. Always manually log-in to the site if you want to check details.

When I put "xxx" into whois.com it does not come back as being from Apple, it is some company named "MarkMonitor Inc."

Unsolicited texts and emails always scams. Legitimate companies don’t text you saying you need to click a link and enter your username and password.

If you find out something is wrong with your Apple Pay call Apple directly. Never ever click a link in an email that you didn’t specifically request. The only example I can think of is password reset emails and it would’ve been one you specifically requested seconds ago. Don’t even open emails that are suspicious because that can be dangerous.

If it redirects to Apple’s website, maybe its purpose is to identify Apple Pay users. Who knows what we will then be targeted with and subjected to —actual fraud, or advertising for financial services.

I just received a scam text a few mins ago. My first time getting one of these.

Your Apple account has detected unusual sign in, please verify and update immediately, or your account will be closed.

Complete verification, please reply: Update! You can click the link in the text message to complete the verification. If verification is abandoned, the account will be deleted within 12 hours.

I just added daqs6744@kuthfs.com to the scam block list.

True. Did get a message from my bank about a potential fraudulent credit card charge. Thought it was malware so ignored it. Checked their website a few hours later and it turns out that it was legitimate. Thousands of dollars changed to my credit card on the other side of the country.
