scan function on hp officejet 6210 all-in-one in Leopard

I recently had my data transferred from a dead G5 OS 10.3.9 to an iMac OS10.5.6.
I have been able to copy using the officejet but when I open "HP Image Zone", double click "Scan to PDF" I get an error "The HP Communications application is not running. Click "Reset" button to restart the Comm. app. or "Quit" to quit HP Scan and Archive.
Clicking the Reset button in the error box brings up an identical box, so I have to quit. The HP machine is on.
Any suggestions?
