I have a note in Apple Notes that I created in 2018 by scanning some documents with my old iPhone 6 (of course, they were important documents
). I was using the brand-new "Scan to PDF" capability of Notes. Now, three years later, I need those scans, but when I view that note only some of the scanned attachments load and are visible. Specifically, the single page scans seem to pop up just fine, and can be viewed on iPhone or iPad. The multi-page scans... not so. The multi-page scans just show the endlessly circling matchstick "workin' on it, Boss" icon, no matter how long I wait. Interestingly, the single-page documents (that I can view) have titles that the Apple system has created by running OCR on the first line of the scanned PDF. I know that at least some of the multi-page scans had hand-written notes on them, which makes me wonder if the failure is in some way related to difficulty in running OCR on the hand-written documents?
Just for fun, I logged into iCloud and looked at the note there: none of the scans were visible and present from that interface
. Nothing but matchsticks, even on the single-page scans.
Has anyone run into this, or have ideas? My iPad is still on AppleCare+, so I'll probably have to ask for Apple support eventually. Don't know if this helps, but I have full monthly Mac/iPhone snapshot backups made with a USB cable to iTunes going back to the date in 2018 when the note was created. I kind of doubt that there is any saved data for this in those, since Apple usually doesn't save locally what it sends to iCloud, right?
