bartelby macrumors Core Jun 16, 2004 19,795 34 Jan 28, 2010 #2 Did the scanner software not have an OCR (optical character recognition) bit? Acrobat Professional (not sure about lower versions) can OCR pdfs. EDIT: Not sure how reliable either are. Not had to do it for a few years now...

P PeggyD macrumors 6502a Jan 9, 2007 638 2 Covington, WA, USA Jan 28, 2010 #3 Try PDFPen 4. It uses the OmniPage OCR engine & does very well. For only $50, it sure beats Acrobat!
