Scanner advice?

I am looking for a dependable large format (11x17) and a letter/legal size scanner. Most of the work will be for publication/graphic design work.

Any recommendations? I know MicroTek makes a large format version. Haven't been able to find much from

Only thing I know I want to avoid are scanners that use SilverFast scanning software. (this purchase is for a client, he detested using SilverFast for his UMAX when he switched to OSX).

Preferably FireWire based, but not an absolute necessity.
