Scanner and (lack of) sleep

Connecting the Canon Lide 500f scanner to the mini stops the mac sleeping. It goes into sleep mode and then immediately wakes. Disconnecting the usb cord from the scanner solves the problem. The scanner is connected via a Belkin hub.

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how I might fix this?
