Re: Canon CanoScan 4400F on Mac 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard)

Is there a way to eliminate the "scanner noise" that occurs when the computer starts up? The scanner is not among the devices that startup when the computer starts up. At least, the scanner is not listed in the Accounts - Login Items section.

Thanks for any tips.

I don't think there's much you can do, unless your scanner has a setting that deals with that. What is happening is that the scanner is either being powered on by the USB port, and/or being initialized because there's a "live" signal on the other end of the USB port. Depending on the scanner, if it's bus-powered (no separate power plug), you might be able to get it to stop by plugging it into a powered hub.

Alternatively, if it bothers you a lot, you could obviously unplug it and just plug it in when you want to use it.
