This is a scanner question really, but I am on a Mac and maybe you Mac guys, or at least computer guys, know where to go.

The scanner is giving an error message which says there is an error communicating with the scanner. I researched the error code with no luck. It is a printer with a fax and scanner built in. I checked the manual and there is nothing there with a malfunctioning scanner. The printer is connected because it responded to a ping test and gave back a continuous stream of pings (and it also printed something). I am trying to set the printer/scanner/fax machine in another way by typing the IP address in an internet browser and it is asking for a network path. Every "network path" that I have tried is bringing an error. Where would I find the actual network path? Apparently mine aren't good enough.

This printers scanner originally worked, but now it is having that communication error all of a sudden. I don't know why.

Any ideas?

Does it work if you use USB? What is the brand and model? Are you using Image Capture or some third-party software?

Have you tried power-cycling it? It's definitely communicating if it is able to ping.

If not, How old is the Printer/Scanner? What brand? I've only used HP Printer/Scanners; I typically go into Preview, clicking 'File', and then selecting 'Import from Scanner', then selecting your remote scanner; perhaps your printer/scanner runs better on their house-brand (i.e. HP, Kodak, Canon) software?

Hope this helps.

I don't have a USB on me to try, so I haven't tried that. The process I usually use, and would like to continue using (since this way just randomly stopped working) is I go to System Preferences>Printers&Scanners>Printer Model(which is an HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fnw)>Scan (a tab at the top after clicking on the printer model)>Open Scanner. The screen then says "Waiting for scanner.... After a few seconds, the error message displays, "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner. (-9923)."

The scanner is brand new and worked perfectly when first installed, but now it has randomly stopped scanning. I even reset the printer to it's original settings just in case somebody else messed with them.
