Scanner Problem

Hi, I've got a powermac G4 that has both OS 9 & OS X on it. My epson scanner runs fine if I'm using OS 9, but when using OS X, it comes up with the message "Cannot find the scanner on the BUS". Is this a driver problem? If I download OS X drivers, will that resolve it, and will it still work on OS 9, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I just wanted to make sure updating the drivers wouldn't mess up the OS 9 settings. Is that the case?
