Scanner

I have an eMac on OS 10.2.8 and am using a Canoscan Lide 20 scanner. At times, I get this error: Cannot communicate with scanner. The cable may be disconnected. Check status. The Scanner Driver will be closed.

I can restart the computer or log out and log back in and things work.

Any ideas on how I can keep the scanner working without all the extra steps??

from what i recall, when i started using my Canon scanner (can't remember exactly what it is), i think i downloaded some drivers/software from Canon.

i never tried it with native OS X support, so maybe that's a little glitch...?
