I am interested in buying a scanner, just wondering what people would recommend. I would mainly use it to scan pictures and some text (use OCR software that comes with the scanner). I have seen an Epson 1260 that runs through Image Capture, and the pictures looked of poor quality. I would like to use Image Capture. What particular brand or model would be best to use?

don't get a perfection 1660.. my mom just got one and the support in OSX is not only horrible, but you can't even using the backlighting (for slides) feature (well, at least I can't find it anywhere... the interface is just deplorable)

and the OS9 software is even worse bleh!

I've seen some good quality scans from epsons in general though

also I've used a high-end umax that was pretty sharp

I recently ordered an epson1260 photo for school. I needed a quality scanner, osx compatible, but not overly expensive.

I've heard many positive things about the 1260 (i went through cnet and amazon's uesr comments) and decided on it.

When I get it (should be this next week) I can tell you better what kind of work it does.
